Armed groups have attacked a mosque in Zamfara state, northwestern Nigeria. At least 15 people were killed. The attack was carried out during Friday prayers at the Jumuat central mosque in Ruan Jama town of Bukkuyum.

The news agency Reuters reported this information about the locals on Saturday.
According to the news, another resident, who did not wish to be named, said that the attack took place around 2 pm. A local man named Amimu Mustafa said, "The armed group members came on motorbikes and entered the mosque with guns and started shooting at us sporadically."

The Zamfara State Police spokesperson did not provide any information on the matter. State police did not comment when contacted by Reuters.

Allegedly, heavily armed gunmen (locally known as bandits) have wreaked havoc across northwestern Nigeria in the past two years. They kidnapped thousands of people.
