At least 7 people were killed in a fire in the basement of a shopping mall in Daejeon, South Korea. Al Jazeera reported that the fire broke out at the shopping mall at 7:45 am local time on Monday. The fire quickly spread to the loading dock area of the basement. The fire was brought under control around 3 pm with the efforts of more than 500 fire service personnel from 90 units. According to the news, efforts are being made to bring out the common people trapped in the building.

Go Seung-cheol, an official at the Daejeon Fire Service headquarters, said that after the fire was extinguished, workers were continuing to search for survivors. It is unclear if anyone is still missing or if there is smoke in parts of the building.
More than 110 employees of the shopping mall and customers of a nearby hotel were evacuated soon after the fire broke out. Officials said the fire damage could have been more if the fire had broken out during shopping at the mall.

The fire service and police are investigating the cause of the fire. An electric car was being charged in the basement, local media reported, citing witnesses. It is believed that the fire may have started from the explosion of that car.
