At least 9 people have been killed in a gunman's rampage at a school in Russia. At least 20 people were injured in the incident in central Russia on Monday. Al Jazeera reported that some of the victims were children.
The Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement that the shooting occurred at the school in Izhvesk, 960 kilometers from Moscow. Among the dead are two teachers, five students and two guards.
The Russian Interior Ministry confirmed the shooting in a statement. Regional governor Alexander Brechalov said children were among the casualties. The school in Izvesk taught 6 to 17-year-olds.
While such incidents are frequent in US schools, school shootings in Russia are rare. In the latest attack, the authorities could not reveal the identity of the attacker or the reason for the attack.
