An audio clip of a government official with Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been leaked. One of the three audios features a girl lobbying for a government job for her son-in-law.

Local media Dawn reported that Fawad Chowdhury, leader of Imran Khan's political party Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI), shared a two-minute audio clip on his Twitter account last Saturday. In that audio, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif can be heard lobbying to get a job. Shahbaz Sharif told the official that Maryam Nawaz had told him to get her daughter Mehrunnesa's son-in-law Raheel a facility to import power plant equipment from India. In response, the person on the other end of the phone said that there will be a lot of criticism if the issue of bringing the equipment goes to the ECC and the Cabinet. If this is done, many problems may arise politically.
In the leaked audio, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is also heard saying that Maryam Nawaz is very fond of her daughter's son-in-law Raheel. The person on the other end (government official) instructed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to talk to Maryam tactfully about the power plant equipment and said that she would also speak.

Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of Shahbaz Sharif's elder brother Nawaz Sharif. Maryam Nawaz's daughter Meherunnessa got married to Shilpapati Chowdhury Munir's son Raheel in 2015. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at this wedding.

Meanwhile, two other leaked audios discuss the appointment of the National Accountability Bureau chief and the resignation of PTI leaders. In that discussion, PML-N leaders were heard giving their views on PTI's resignation.

After the audio was leaked, leaders of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf claimed that the prime minister had discussed her family's illegal business interests with government officials. For them individual interest is bigger than national interest which is totally immoral.

However, neither Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif nor PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz commented on the audio leak.
