The famous Islamic scholar Dr. Yusuf Al Karzawi has passed away (inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajioun). He was 96 years old at the time of his death.
Al Jazeera reported that the Egyptian-born Karjawi was a well-known figure in the Muslim world. He was the chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars. He was also the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, an Egyptian-based Islamic group.

Al-Karzawi was once a regular on Al Jazeera's Urdu section. He used to discuss various religious topics. He was in exile in Qatar since 2011. Karzawi could not return to the country after Egyptian President Morsi was ousted. Morsi was ousted in a coup in 2013. Al Karzawi was sentenced to death in Egypt in absentia.
