Father and son made history by getting Nobel in the same category

Baba won the Medicine or Physiology Nobel in 1982. 40 years later, in 2022, the boy won the Nobel in the same category. Savante will get it. His name was announced by the Nobel Assembly of the Karolinska Institute in Sweden on Monday. His father, Carl Seun Dettloff Bergström, also received the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology.

In an interview given to the Nobel Foundation, Pabo said that the biggest inspiration in his life is his mother, Karin Pabo. He was a chemist. He was not very close to his father. Rather, he was very close to his mother. Although his father's work always attracted him.
Pabo's father is a famous scientist like Bergstrom. The Nobel laureate said that he got a lesson from this matter. In Pabo's words, "Nobel winners are actually ordinary people."

Earlier, Man Segban won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1925. In 1981, his son Kai won the Nobel in the same category. In 1959, Arthur Korberg received the Nobel Prize in Medicine. His son Roger won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2006.

Note that Neanderthals were the extinct ancestors of today's human species. That Neanderthal genome was examined by Savante Pabo. This Swedish scientist has also studied another ancestor of the current human species, the hominin. In the research, he found out that the gene transfer from that extinct species to the body of the current human species. How it happened, what is its effect, all these are important enough even in today's situation, Pabo thinks. This research will also lead to a better understanding of how our body's immune system responds to infection.
