401 people were put on trial in the African country of Chad due to anti-government protests. Among them, 262 people have been sentenced to various terms.
According to Al Jazeera, there were massive anti-government protests in Chad in October. A total of 401 people were held in Coro Toro prison due to the protests.
In a press conference on Monday, Public Prosecutor (Government Counsel) Mosa Weid Jibrin said that 262 people were sentenced to various terms, 80 people were given temporary sentences and 59 people were acquitted.
The trial ended on Friday after four days of hearing. Only state television was allowed to gather news on the hearing. Those arrested were charged with unauthorized assembly, destruction of property and arson. Lawyers for the accused have described the trial as 'illegal'.
