Pakistan's former prime minister and opposition leader Imran Khan has been given a notice to resign as chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) by the country's Election Commission (EC).

The EC has given this notice due to the defeat of Imran Khan in the controversial Toshakhana case on Tuesday.

The notice said that a notice has been sent to the PTI chief in this regard. The date of hearing in this regard has been fixed on December 13. The show cause notice issued on the foreign fund will also be heard on the same day.

Earlier on October 21, the EC banned Imran from contesting in any upcoming national and provincial elections along with canceling his membership of Parliament for the same issue. The ban was later suspended by an order of the Islamabad High Court.

Allegation against Imran Khan - During his tenure as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, he gave false information to the Toshakhana authorities about the expensive gifts he received from various foreign heads of government and government officials.

A case was filed in the EC on this allegation and the ban was imposed by the commission only after a conviction was found in the investigation.
